Good People Are In No Way Defeated

We are creating and living in our own alternative to a failing civilization, and a planet under siege by knaves and fools.

The world is going insane but we are stubbornly sticking to sanity and to reality. We are The Saners.

We are building our own communities, our own civil society.

We will embrace and embody kindness and generosity. We value Life and the Earth and Nature. This is how we will live and how we will treat each other-and everyone.

We stand apart from those who prefer fascism and hatred. They will not be seeing much of us. But they can quit their shitshow anytime and join us.

The Worldwide Civilization is Built on Competition and Exploitation and Selfishness. Ours Is Built on The Opposite.

The Saners, the climate and worldwide change group, is determined to change the way we live and stabilize the climate, and offer our children a chance to live better lives than ours.

We offer this in stark contrast to the failed leaders, failed systems and failed civilization that has, even with decades of clear scientific warnings, chosen to ruin the Earth by continuing to burn gigatons of fossil fuels every year.

Our group is small, but we will get bigger. When people know there is an option, a choice between hate and love, a choice between death and life, a choice between servitude and freedom, many people who can’t even imagine a different world today will join us.

Who, given the choice, would willingly and enthusiastically work their entire lives supporting acts that will doom their children and possibly our entire species? Fools. There will always be fools. But the number of people making a better choice will grow.
Right now, people see only minor choices or at least smaller choices. And even with these smaller choices, what people want is often vetoed by those in positions of power and authority.

In 2000, the majority of American voters selected a climate activist as their president, but the SCOTUS-representing the interests of the wealthy-put a Texas oilman in the White House.

Most people want serious action to stabilize and protect the climate, which they can see for themselves is collapsing right now. But they can’t even get a transition to clean energy, something that at this point would be too little, too late.

The Courts have decided that children’s demand that the government protects and preserves a habitable Earth is unenforceable. Oil companies in Montana and everywhere are free to destroy the planet.

This is why our civilization cannot be reformed, why in self-defence we will need to end the insanity by refusing to support it. The Saners is phasing out all labor required to ruin the Earth and continue the exploitation of both people and the planet we share with so many other species.

The power of our adversaries, those who are endangering our children and our Earth for selfish, stupid reasons, is that they have money and formal authority. Their weakness is that they actually do none of the work.

We do all of it. We can stop. We can do something else. It’s tricky because we will need to build alternative systems so we can produce and share healthy food, medicine and other necessities. We will need to take care of ourselves and each other. But this is doable and we intend to do it.

We understand that the ultra-rich, the giant corporations, and the politicians who are bought by and serve them, cannot be persuaded. We will not waste time or energy trying to change their minds. Nor will we attack them. They have a greater capability for using force and violence, and we have no inclination to use either.

Unlike them, we have moral considerations. That’s why we will stop them by refusing to help them. Labor shortages will, in the end, shut down the oil industry and the coal industry and the natural gas industry. We will be producing only the rock-bottom minimum needed of fossil fuels, a tiny fraction of what is produced today. Every industry that produces stuff for profit, crap nobody needs, will be ended.

We won’t build yachts and jets for billionaires, and we won’t build shiny commodified crap for the toiling masses, for ourselves. Because we don’t need that stuff. We need the time that we are losing in all this senseless labor. We need the planet we are destroying while doing that stupid work.

We are told that nobody is willing to change. We aren’t willing to give up things. Really?

Would you be willing to give up going to work every day, collecting the minimum amount of compensation that your employer can get away with, just so you can go home to a place filled with stuff that you are too tired to enjoy? Wouldn’t you prefer having your own time, your own LIFE, instead of living as a subordinate to some clueless fool who thinks he’s your boss?

And think about doing much, much less work but the work you still do is meaningful and truly useful. Because you would be producing things that people need, things that are useful. You’d be producing only necessities like healthy food, and medicine and the like. None of it for money, none of it to profit some stupid corporation or shareholder.

All of it for use, to keep fellow human beings healthy and alive and free.

We Will Create What Others Can’t Imagine or Believe Is Impossible

You can be sure that the people in charge, the people responsible for this gigantic mess of a world we live in, will protest against us fiercely. They want to preserve their wealth and power. They don’t realize that, while killing us for money, they are also killing themselves, their loved ones and an entire ecosystem.

They don’t understand that their “victory,” if achieved, will be short-lived and meaningless. They don’t understand that the misery they are causing will affect everyone-forever.

That’s why we call our group The Saners. We are grounded in reality, understand that we are all a part of Nature, and that to try to defy Nature is impossible, stupid and downright cruel.

Our group has members in half of the United States and more than 20 countries. We are in the process of setting up an online worldwide community, and in establishing local Saners community groups with the idea of replicating them everywhere.

Fascists are taking over countries. Resurgent racism, misogyny and vilification of immigrants is an ugly worldwide trend. We are the opposite. We are the alternative. We are the solution to the polycrisis.
