Have A Nice Apocalypse!

We will need to end production and use of fossil fuels. Soon.

We DO have alternate energy — which we aren’t using (yet) to replace fossil fuel. Our use of fossil fuels is still INCREASING.

We’ve got work to do. Urgent work.

Loss

We must assert ourselves and end fossil fuels over the objections of authorities. As described in WeAreSaners.org:

We demand an immediate worldwide emergency program, led by climate scientists, to end fossil fuels, end climate abuse and repair the planet.

Once we do this, we will have no fossil fuel energy and much less energy overall. Which means we can’t waste it on the tons and tons of useless crap we produce now that serve no critical function.

We need to produce food, housing and medicine. And not much else.

We will lose a lot, and that scares people. But we GET a lot, too. And few recognize what we have to gain. At least not yet.

Different Way of Living

The current way of living is centered on STUFF. We spend most of our time producing STUFF — to sell, to make money, to buy, and especially to maximize shareholder returns and to make our bosses (who produce NOTHING) wealthier.

In the process, we get tired and old. The best days and years of our lives are spent in servitude.

Our society demands this of us. The cost of living is robbing our lives of freedom and meaning. We cannot get the most basic requirements for physical survival without doing this kind of stupid and meaningless labor.

When we reduce work to producing ONLY what we need — and do NO work simply to make (useless) profit, we gain TIME.

Much less stuff = much more time. And what do we do with this time? Now that we have less stuff to play with?

We LIVE!

We learn, satisfy our curiosity. We look around and take the time to actually SEE. We play. We create art and express ourselves. We talk to each other! We stop watching our phones, stop binge-watching reality TV and start living in communities with other people.

The Dishonest Promise of Leisure — Realized

We were repeatedly promised that labor-saving devices, progress and modernity would give us wonderful lives of leisure. That never happened. In fact, everything went up in price snd wages stagnated. For many, in real terms, wages declined.

Our promises here in America were just as dishonest and those given by the Soviets to the Russian people. They were always just one more 5 year plan away from paradise.

Leaders look out for themselves. So they lie. They invent wild theories and ideologies and often come to actually believe their own lies.

Many of us understand all this now. We understand that the United States AND Russia AND China AND U.K. AND India AND pretty much everywhere are regimes engorging themselves on fossil fuels. They are speedily destroying the climate and the future. And really, at this point, they are also destroying the present.

Last Chance

It’s late. It’s our last chance to assert ourselves and to give our children a chance. We have to pick: the cruel lies of the authorities or the harsh reality that requires quick and severe changes for survival.

I think it’s an easy choice. And, on balance, choosing the end of fossil fuels is a endorsement of humanity and a rejection of worshipping mere stuff.
