We aren't a coherent uniform group. There is no "Antifa." That's an invention devised by the fascist regime intended to justify their brutality.
It's nonsense. We know who we are. The Resistance is a coalition of groups and individuals opposed to violence and tyranny. This and this alone is what unites us.
That is enough. That is more than enough. We don't need to agree on everything to respect and care for each other.
Moderate Democrats, Socialists, Democratic Socialists (which isn’t the same), Communists, Anarchists and even some Republicans don’t like being ruled by force. In fact, The United States, a nation of immigrants, was founded on the principle of opposition to kings.
This coming nationwide protest, which surely will be the biggest in the country’s history, is also the most unambiguously patriotic. And, unlike the brutal regime that been on a violent crime spree, our movement is, was, and always will be peaceful.
Why Nonviolence?
There's a very simple reason The Resistance refuses to use violence. Why? Violence—physically targeting human beings for abuse—is morally wrong. That is what our opponents are doing daily, what we are documenting in videos so that everyone can see.
It's playful frogs versus armed thugs.
Nonviolence offers another benefit: an increased probability of victory. It is our unsecret weapon, one identified by sociologists and historians as the approach most dangerous to tyrants. Nonviolent movements succeed twice as often as violent ones.
Why? People dislike violence and as a consequence nonviolent movements are usually much, much bigger. Armed enforcers and other supporters of authoritarian regimes are more likely to defect to a nonviolent movement.
Historically, every single nonviolent movement that actively engaged 3.5% of the population for a sustained period has succeeded. (Chenoweth - Why Civil Resistance Works)
EVERY. SINGLE. ONE.
We are on the path to success—IF we show determination and continue.
Sometimes after a despot is removed, he's followed by another despot. So, we must be careful. BUT, the fact is nonviolent movements routinely bring down dictators.
Mubarak. Ceaucescu. Marcos. Bolsonaro. The Shah. Milosevic.
Just this year: South Korea's President Yoon Suk Yeol.
He tried to declare martial law and The People refused. Today, Yoon is in prison on charges of insurrection. He faces life in prison, or the death penalty.
Nonviolence works.
How Stupid Is This Regime?
Now, in recent years, authoritarians have had more success suppressing public opposition. They have learned how to—sometimes—counter nonviolent resistance. They are cruel but clever.
The Trump administration is stupid. They may very well repeat the stupid mistakes of previous tyrants. What do stupid tyrants do? They desperately brutalize peaceful protesters. And this hastens the defeat of tyrants. Everyone sees and understands. Those who were on the sidelines join the resistance.
Even loyalists refuse to defend the regime. Many of them defect to join The People.
Now, I can't predict the future and I certainly hope the fascists will show sensible restraint. This administration has a demonstrated history of brutal violence. But also bluster and empty threats.
What WE do on October 18, which is hold a gigantic peaceful protest, is the most important thing. WE, not the regime, are now driving events. But their response is also important.
IF they are stupid enough to attack dancing people wearing silly animal costumes, they will speed their collapse. Really, if they want to avoid accountability, they should flee the country by helicopter now.
But if they stupidly use violence, they will inevitably face the same fate as Yoon.
Be There!
