We Are Saners

We are a movement dedicated to harnessing nonviolent noncooperation to stabilize the climate and build a sane, caring civilization.

Shrinking Consumerism and Taxes and Drowning Fascism In A Bathtub

Shrinking Consumerism and Taxes and Drowning Fascism In A Bathtub

The sick values of capitalism must be rejected for humanity to survive — and thrive.

“I don’t want to abolish government. I simply want to reduce it to the size where I can drag it into the bathroom and drown it in the bathtub.”
— tax opponent Grover Norquist

It would be hard to find anyone I disagree with more sharply than Grover Norquist. He believed that corporations are wonderful and government is evil. He was a committed opponent of taxes. He wanted to shrink government so that corporations would be untaxed and unregulated.

He believed that the market — free of any government interference — would create a golden age of prosperity.

I believe — and can clearly see — that left to do as they please, corporations abuse both people and the planet mercilessly in pursuit of ever bigger profits. And they will do this even knowingly ruining the climate and dooming everyone’s children.

Corporatism is literally insane.

That said, I do — now — favor the American population evading taxes every chance they get— because the current regime is a fascist dictatorship. I also favor every American minimizing purchases and ending consumerism which has proved to be an experiment that failed spectacularly.

What Our Tax Dollars Now Fund

The current fascist regime is in the process of slashing or eliminating our paid benefits—and the most important function of paying taxes is to take care of taxpayers and all the people living in our country. So, at the outset, there is no reason to pay taxes because, as taxpayers, we are getting decreasing and, perhaps soon, NO value for our money.

The regime has shredded the social contract and destroyed its own legitimacy. We, in turn, have no obligation or inclination to obey the rules, laws, and other demands of this government or this civilization.

We, of course, reject the attacks on Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, USAID, and every other program that actually helps human beings. And we reject the funding—especially at our expense—of programs and policies that abuse human beings and protect the power of the tyrant.

We all need to cut our spending because the tyrant is impoverishing us and because consumerism supports his regime and the plutocrats.

We reject taxes as illegitimate because they fund:

The kidnapping of innocent people and shipping them to foreign concentration camps to be tortured. This applies even to people who the administration admits are innocent.

The funding of a military being prepared to threaten and attack even friendly nations (and we reject ALL war, but against friendly nations, war is unjustifiable.) We refuse to support threats against Canada, Greenland or Panama—or whoever the tyrant decides is next.

The funding of abusive billionaires via tax cuts, fat government contracts, and regulations designed to favor them. Of course, exhibits A and B are Trump and Musk. Or, as I like to refer to them, Fraud and Waste.

The militarization of the police force and ICE and the National Guard to be used against the American people who dissent from tyranny and foreigners seeking freedom. We don’t want to fund our own abuse, nor will we accept our spouses, family members, or other relatives and friends protecting and serving tyranny. We will insist that they must choose either the tyrant or their loved ones. In this way, we expect to weaken the tyrant by removing the loyalty of many of his enforcers.

Slashing or ending programs for disaster relief (FEMA) and protecting our health (HHS, NIH, etc.). We have a moron crippling the use of vaccines, and promoting measles and polio, in charge of health. The reich has ended emergency aid for suffering communities in Florida and North Carolina…and soon everywhere.

Firing some of the most important workers in America. Under the most transparent of lives— “efficiency” and “saving the taxpayer money” — the most skilled and valuable government workers and contractors have been fired. Experts on everything from weather, to health, to disaster relief, to medical research have been removed. This was some of the most valuable uses of our tax dollars. We understand exactly what’s happening and who is responsible.

Most of all, we want to end our funding of the tyrant who is ruining America and trying to ruin the world. We want his entire regime to resign immediately. We want an emergency election with international observers and, if necessary, supervision to ensure that our elections are fair, free, open and transparent. No money for “messaging” by corporations or wealthy individuals.

And the winners will be held to the standards of human decency, at minimum. In truth, we will expect and demand much more.

We want to sharply increase taxes on the wealthy—both their income and their wealth. We want to use these increased revenue to expand both access to and payments from our safety net programs.

We want to end homelessness completely and permanently in our country.

We want to ensure that every single person gets what’s needed for a decent life—food, shelter, medicine and dignity.

We want to slash the military budget so that it is incapable of aggression and can only provide legitimate defense.

This is for starters. We’ve got a zillion great ideas. From Doughnut Economics to Tiered Democratic Governance to an end to all for-profit labor…we want it all because WE DO ALL THE WORK. We don’t want businessmen and politicians and other do-nothing elitists determining the courses of our lives and what options are open to us.

We will end the production of yachts and jets and other toys for greedy undeserving overgrown children who imagine themselves to be in charge.

Oh, yes. Change is coming. We know that WE are the essential workers and everything depends on us. We recognize our power and we aren’t interested in compromising with those who have been so abusive for so long.

Our Tax Resistance Plan

In reality, our tax resistance plan is simply part of our plan to oust the fascist regime through nonviolent noncooperation. It’s hard to know what form it will take but we will devise something.

In general, we tend to start with mild resistance to get started—with lower risk. And then, we slowly escalate until we get to the point where we refuse any withholding from our paychecks and send Uncle Adolph nothing on April 15th.

For now, I ask that you consider joining a resistance group like indivisible.org, or fiftyfifty.one, or The Saners, or GeneralStrikeUS.com—or some other worthy group you identify.
