We Are Saners

We are a movement dedicated to harnessing nonviolent noncooperation to stabilize the climate and build a sane, caring civilization.

The People And the Plutocrats: An Unlikely Alliance

The People And the Plutocrats: An Unlikely Alliance

Could it be that the 1% and the 99% are getting together?

No. That isn’t happening. That could never happen. But, they are currently battling, and together will defeat, the same enemy: the fascist regime of Donald Trump.

We The People oppose Donald Trump because he’s a violent fascist, a dictator, and because he’s unspeakably cruel and dangerous. The Plutocrats oppose him because, although he just gave them zillions of dollars and free rein to exploit without limit from the Big Beautiful Bill, he’s no longer useful to them.

The Plutocrats love the obliteration of regulations, the huge gifts in the budget care of the taxpayers (not the taxEVADERS like themselves)…but well, they HATE the tariffs and don’t need Trump anymore. Plus, the Epstein files provide a relatively easy tool to get rid of him.

Besides, the Plutocrats have “friends” in the Democratic Party—they’ve been playing both sides for decades. The Plutocrats see a return to unfettered power with a different set of frontmen.

They will get rid of Trump (with help from The People.) But they won’t take power, except nominally. Democrats will win. But We The People will rein in both and, if necessary, remove them from the stage. The old era is REALLY over.

Why and How Could This Happen?

Let’s be clear: the scenario I have outlined isn’t guaranteed. Nothing is guaranteed. That’s why the people who predict doom are simply fools who give up in advance—discoucouraged—and make the Plutocrats, who ARE in a strong position, seem unbeatable.

But the Plutocrats are beatable and are in a vulnerable position and the growing People’s movement has a real chance to change everything. We The People can and may take direct control. It’s OUR responsibility to ensure that this is what happens.

Ah, but why and how? Wouldn’t it be good enough, if not ideal, to have the Democrats in power instead of the Groping Old Pedophiles? Yes, but given the big picture, it would be a short-lived and ultimately fatal mistake.

It’s unlikely that the Democrats would send ICE terrorists into our communities, or so severely eviscerate every program that helps people, from public health, to FEMA, to the department of education.

Sadly, however, the Democrats had already been happy to trim The People’s paid benefits and give huge gifts from the treasury to wealthy donors—similar to, but nowhere as bad as the GOP. Both sides buy the excuse of “austerity” and a budget that can only be balanced on the backs of the people who do all the work and pay nearly all of the taxes.

Both sides use US as punching bags, but the GOP punches harder, and mostly below the belt.

We The People REFUSE

Now, the ongoing national protest movement continues to grow. The organizers are beginning to guide the development of community-based groups. This is significant.

We have been atomized, divided. We have been strangers to each other and this division is what has allowed us to be exploited so badly for so long. The cultivated division along with propaganda-fed fears and hatreds has handed the country and much of the world over to control by cruel foolish people with no conscience.

We should note that the national movement is a coalition and has core principles but no set ideology. Participants run the gamet from Centrist Democrats to very radical people. And even anarchists like myself!

I love all of the coalition partners because, even though we don’t agree on everything, we CARE and we CARE ENOUGH to go out into the streets and speak out. And many of us have begun taking additional actions. That said, it’s a legitimate question: what happens if the movement wins? WHO takes control? What will be the outcome of this brave and principled movement?

Will it be slight reform and a return to plutocrat rule? Or something different? Or even the emergence of a different authoritarian regime?

Selling A Better World

I believe that the winner will be whoever best sells their vision for a better world. If we do a good job, the winner will be everyone on Earth—because we forget this day-to-day, but the climate is near collapse and IF we let it collapse, EVERYONE WILL LOSE.

Our group, The Saners, is offering a genuine vision for a better world that includes TWO great historic improvements: the end of servitude, that is We The People will no longer waste our lives on a treadmill of senseless labor to enrich undeserving elites; AND, we will stabilize the Earth’s climate and biosphere—although both are permanently damaged, we have a real chance to avoid total collapse.

I’m saying this not based on my expertise, but on the fact that most actual scientists—although deeply worried and concerned—have not yet given up.

I think we CAN win because the community-based civilization can’t be easily co-opted by plutocrats the way a top down civilization can. Once we become neighbors and communities, we will change the nature of power. At the operational level, We The People will finally be able to say NO.

Again, this is not a guaranteed victory. We will need to work for it. But these are forces and situations that provide an opportunity. Also, I really don’t see anybody, certainly not the Democrats, offering a credible or appealing alternative.

The most important contribution of The Saners is the ONLY vision for survival and flourishing. I believe that people can be excited and motivated by our vision. What other inspiration is out there? Yes, reversing abuse is nice. But relief is far less exciting than reward.

It’s been said, you can’t beat something with nothing. We, The Saners are—as far as I can see—the only ones offering something.

These two videos provide a bit of our vision.
