We Are Saners

We are a movement dedicated to harnessing nonviolent noncooperation to stabilize the climate and build a sane, caring civilization.

The Plan

We have a plan to end fascism and plutocracy. We do this together.

#FreeMondays has begun – Get Ready To Participate!

I am having surgey on Monday, September 8th, but if I finish soon enough and am up for it, I will hold a Free Monday on my stoop. I will keep doing them whenver I can. I have no intention of stopping.

Do whatever you are are comfortable doing to support or participate in the plan. We intend to keep recruiting and increase the size, scope and intensity of our actions every week.

Our first action, aimed at shutting down ICE, is called #FreeMondays.

It’s the most direct attack on authority and assertion of the will and power of The People imaginable. We will STAY HOME FROM WORK on MONDAYS!

I can hear your objections. But it’s the very shocking nature of the action that gives it the power to change civilization and shift power from the elites. Imagine creating a de facto four-day workweek!

The Polycrisis

We have THREE terrible problems. They are the crises of Servitide, of Planetary Destruction and of Meaning.

1. SERVITUDE

People under plutocratic systems, but also other authoritarians, spend their lives working in servitude of undeserving elites. Systems that preserve, protect and ensure the dominance of a priviledged few is the root cause of our problems.

Humans have limited lifespans and to waste decades in offices and factories producing profit for bosses is an abomination. Yet this has been normalized. This must end.

2. PLANETARY DESTRUCTION

The system of unlimited greed that underpins our civilization, and the commitment to fossil fuels is destroying the habitablilty of the Earth. Even as climate destruction, collapse of the biosphere, and other deadly results of irresponsible stewardship of our planet become unavoidable, the only reaction to the crisis is to accelerate it.

This catastrophic failure guarantees the collapse of both the rulers and their systems. They are over their heads and helpless to manage the crisis they created. We must remove both to preserve our planet and our species.

3. MEANING

Our sense of self and of purpose are tied to our cruel and literally insane systems of pretend representataive government and abusive transactional economics.

As we remove the cruel failed systems, we must remember that humans are not resources, or simply a means of production. People are an end in themselves, and our creative and social and mental activities (especially curiosity and storytelling) are the essence of a meaningful human life.

We are here for each other, and to explore our capabilities and our universe. That is where we find meaning. Endless, meaningless labor—which is how we spend much of our lives today—robs us of our purpose. We will consciously return to activities and interactions that make life worthwhile.

The Plan

We have studied social and political movements in history, and learned what works and what doesn’t. There are no guarantees, but our approach is one with a history of success.

We use nonviolent noncooperation—which is twice as successful as movements that use violence. We take the moral high ground and a high chance of meeting our objectives.

Overall, we seek to fix all three aspects of the polycrisis. Our initial actions will roll back and remove fascism and plutocracy.

The first planned action—which will begin shortly—is aimed at stopping and dismantling the government created and directed terrorist group called ICE.

Our initial action, Free Mondays, hits at the core of social and economic control. We are regulated, spending so much of our time working for elites that we are exhausted afterwards. And every Monday, being compelled to go as (essentially) an indentured servant to a (senseless) job, is the fundamental tenant of plutocratic capitalism.

To refuse to do that, even while obeying rules (calling in sick or taking a “legitimate” personal day) puts a crack in the veneer of invincibility that the establishment projects. And our plan centers on free people in their communities spending a WORKDAY actually HAVING FUN with their neighbors.

It puts human life and joy ahead of “pragmatism” and “responsible behavior.”

Our demand—that the government disband the agency that commits violence, kidnapping and torture—is an almost universally popular cause. Only sadists and sociopaths support ICE.

We understand the limitations that makes it risky for people to participate. Many people cannot take Mondays off. But some people will be able to do it occasionally. Some will be gutsy enough to risk their jobs. Others will have more flexible schedules and can take off Mondays more easily. We can also have non-working people taking part—retirees, students, unemployed people.

We want all the bodies we can get, and bigger numbers each week. At some point, Mondays off becomes normalized. Sympathetic and humane small businesses may voluntarily close on Mondays in support of The Plan. We need to try this and take it as far as it goes.

I believe that this tactic can actually help finish off ICE. We have other demands and actions to follow this first one.

Your Move

There are a zillion opportunities to do something to fix our troubled civilization. Of course, most people are over-worked and struggling and distracted. That’s the situation. So, they may not be in a position to do much. But we should all do something when we can. Taking positive action not only helps our whole society, but it helps the person taking that action. It generates genuine hope. The thinking is: If I can do something, then nearly anyone can! We CAN do this!

I urge you to check out and sign up for Indivisible.org. This group has assembled a huge coalition of, well, do-gooders. Millions of people that take action, most visibly in a series of national protests including Hands On and No Kings. They offer an assortment of worthwhile actions you can take. One of them, surely, is something you can do.

This action, Free Mondays, may be impossible for you. Or something you can do only once or twice. But you might still decide to share the info with other people, and help recruit for more participants.

If you do take part in Free Mondays, have fun with it! Be creative! It’s a playful public event. Infuse your celebration with your personality. Your hobbies—maybe your “house party” could include a knitting group. Or something else that only YOU would have suggested. That’s the best!

The approach used by The Plan—a demand paired with stubborn and provative action—will continue. More pieces will be added.

This is the birth of bottom-up power. This is a genuine peaceful and positive revolution. Pass it on!
